Pietermaai Oasis: Local young professionals embrace Pietermaai
WILLEMSTAD - Over the past few years, the historic neighborhood of Pietermaai has undergone a remarkable transformation, with old buildings being renovated and transformed into boutique hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops.
These positive developments have significantly increased the interest of investors in the area. Among them are ambitious young professionals David Mitchell and Axel de Vries, who have full confidence in the enormous potential of Pietermaai and have invested in the large-scale project known as Pietermaai Oasis. Pietermaai Oasis is a new concept located in the heart of the city, consisting of 4 properties (3 of which are historic monuments), 17 apartments/studios, restaurants, and cafés. The historic buildings have been sold and entrusted to capable hands by the former owners who played a crucial role in the restoration of Pietermaai 24 years ago.
Previously, it was assumed that only Dutch investors showed interest in investments in Pietermaai. However, Pietermaai Oasis demonstrates that local investors, such as David Mitchell, also believe in Curaçao. "We are proud to announce that as second-generation investors, we are involved in the development of Pietermaai. The previous generation played an essential role in revitalizing the neighborhood. As local investors, we have acquired several buildings to start this ambitious project. Pietermaai Oasis is a vibrant and innovative concept that adds a new dimension to tourism in Curaçao, distinguishing the island as a destination," says David Mitchell. Mitchell is not unfamiliar to Curaçao society. He has produced a travel program for many years and is considered an experienced traveler. "I want to apply my diverse travel experiences to Curaçao to offer a varied range of experiences to both the local population and tourists," he adds.
In the future, multiple projects will be undertaken where interested individuals, along with Mitchell and de Vries, can actively contribute to the development of Pietermaai as a thriving tourist product. To ensure the success of Pietermaai Oasis, the founders believe that collaboration with other investors is essential for the further development of Pietermaai.
The expectation is that the second phase of this project will be completed by the end of January 2024.
