WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Governance, Planning and Service Delivery has taken a new step toward the establishment of a Bureau of Integrity, organizing a session last Thursday to discuss its implementation and timeline.

During the meeting, participants reviewed the latest draft proposal and planning, which indicates that the legislation for the Bureau of Integrity will be submitted to Curaçao Parliament in January 2027.

The creation of the bureau is considered a significant development for the island, stemming from the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which has been in force for Curaçao since 2024. The initiative aims to strengthen transparency and accountability within government institutions.

The Bureau of Integrity is expected to play a key role in preventing and identifying misconduct, while also helping to build public trust in the country’s governance.

The session brought together a broad range of stakeholders, including representatives from the Landsrecherche, the Ombudsman, the General Audit Chamber, and labor unions. Senior officials from the ministry were also present, signaling broad institutional support for the initiative.

Participants emphasized that integrity is a shared responsibility and that the new bureau should contribute to better governance and a stronger rule of law in Curaçao.
