MFK’s Historic Victory – A Mandate for Change

We have to be honest—even we were taken aback by this result. After years of following Curaçao’s political landscape, we understand how challenging it is for any single party to secure a solid majority. Yet, MFK has not only achieved this feat, but it has done so in a way that fundamentally shifts the balance of power on the island.

For decades, Curaçao’s political scene has been defined by fragmentation and coalition governments, often leading to instability and policy gridlock. However, the 2025 election results tell a different story. MFK has managed to unite a majority of voters, breaking a historical pattern of division. This is not just a victory for the party, but also a sign that a large segment of the population is demanding strong, decisive leadership.

A Clear Mandate, But Also a Great Responsibility

With 13 of the 21 seats in Parliament, MFK now has something no party has had before in our modern history—the power to govern alone. There are no coalition partners to blame, no compromises to make, and no external forces diluting their agenda. This is MFK’s moment to deliver.

The question now is: Will they make good use of this unprecedented opportunity?

Over the past four years, MFK, in coalition with PNP, focused on economic recovery, largely propelled by the reopening of tourism post-COVID. Their success at the polls suggests that voters credit them for the country’s progress and trust them to continue on that path. However, critics argue that much of the economic rebound was inevitable, given the global lifting of pandemic restrictions.

Now, MFK must prove that its policies—not just external circumstances—can sustain long-term growth and development.

A Test of Leadership

MFK has outlined ambitious plans—boosting foreign investment, expanding social housing, and improving healthcare services. But governing without a solid opposition requires discipline and accountability. There are no excuses if policies fail. The party will own both its successes and its failures.

Additionally, MFK must govern for all of Curaçao, not just its supporters. The 45% of voters who did not choose MFK must not feel left behind. Pisas and his administration must recognize that absolute power demands absolute responsibility. A government with unchecked authority can easily slide into complacency or, worse, authoritarianism.

What This Means for Curaçao’s Future

For years, political division has slowed progress. If MFK truly intends to unite the country, this is their chance. If they govern responsibly, transparently, and effectively, this could mark the beginning of a new era in Curaçao’s democracy—one where voters reward results over rhetoric.

However, if MFK fails to deliver, their absolute majority could become their downfall in the next election. The people of Curaçao have placed their trust in one party like never before. Now, it’s up to MFK to prove they deserve it.
