COVID-19 actuality

No vaccine, no specific treatment, no immunity against it,3 aspects that define the current Coronavirus  illness in people, it breaks into the cells inside their host and use them to reproduce itself and disrupt the body's normal functions, most deaths are caused by acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)that damages the lungs and makes breathing difficult, unlike pneumonia, ventilators are the only available supportive treatment by far, the international community is concerned about the virus because so little is known about it and it appears to be spreading quickly, director-general of the World Health Organization Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that Europe has more reported virus cases and deaths than the rest of the world combined, apart from China.

COVID-19 can spread between people through coughs & sneezes even before someone has symptoms,  the virus uses saliva and even water in the eyes to penetrate the body and can live on surfaces for up to 72 hours, scientists in China have recorded the genetic sequences of 19 strains of COVID-19 for experts to study them, the virus was mutating and adapting as it was spreading among people making it very difficult to study it because it looks different in each analysis.

With more than 165,000 cases worldwide it was heeded that children were not as likely to develop major symptoms, experts suggested that they might have upper-respiratory tract illnesses most of the time that they are simply not reporting themselves as feeling ill, or it is possible that other human coronaviruses which are known to cause minor colds may be circulating in schools and playgrounds and providing a degree of cross-protection against Covid-19, also it could be related to social mixing behavior, children interact mostly with other children and adults mostly interact with adults so those differential mixing patterns might explain part of it, needless to say, that the above mentioned does not mean they won't spread the virus to others, in specific to those who are vulnerable around them like their sick family members or elderly people in the community.

This virus is so far the greatest disruption to normal life, antibiotics do not work against it, antiviral drugs can work, but the process of developing and producing them would take years and huge amounts of money, and there is no vaccine yet, also there is no evidence that we can get it only once in a lifetime, the protective antibody is generated in infected people however it cannot last long, for many patients who have been cured there is a likelihood of relapse according to experts, still the data until now cannot determine how long this immunity might last. What can we take for mild symptoms of COVID-19?France health minister” Olivier Véran” who is a neurologist and a qualified doctor advised on Saturday to take Paracetamol in case of fever instead of anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen & Cortisone, health officials point out that these drugs are known to be a risk for those with infectious illnesses because they weaken the body’s immune system, patients should choose paracetamol which is known in the US by the generic name acetaminophen and commonly by the brand name Tylenol because “it will reduce the fever without counterattacking the inflammation”, alas India the world the largest maker of generic drugs restricted lately the export of some common medicines, Paracetamol was one of them because of many drug ingredient makers in China closed their doors.

Are infected people able to transmit the virus to their pets? According to WHO there is no evidence that this can take place but last month the dog of a coronavirus patient in Hong Kong tested weak positive and was put in quarantine; can mosquitoes catch the virus and pass it on to humans? As far as it is known till now, it is not a mosquito-transmitted virus.

Around the world, countries are applying measures to limit the severity and the speed of the Coronavirus spread, it is an unfamiliar situation, social gatherings are canceled, shops and restaurants are closed, schools as well, Countries like the UK admits that the virus is unstoppable and that it will probably become an annual seasonal infection, UK chief science adviser said that their plan is designed to work towards herd immunity, which is to have the majority of the population contract the virus, develop antibodies and then become immune to it defying the world primary focus on limiting the outbreak.

Microsoft Bing team has already launched a web portal for tracking COVID-19 infections worldwide, the website at bing.com/covid, provides up-to-date infection statistics for each country, the tracker currently lists 168,835 as total confirmed cases, 84,558 active cases, 77,761 recovered cases and 6,516 deaths.
