Xploration Coastline will produce one million liters of water per day

Main news | By Correspondent December 22, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - From 2024, Xploration Coastline Curaçao will produce 1 million liters of water per day from seawater for the agricultural sector of Curaçao, using clean energy. In addition, the platform can be used during humanitarian disasters in the Kingdom and the Caribbean.

On December 8, the mobile water purifier signed an agreement with Aqualectra and the University of Curaçao for the development of the necessary local infrastructure to connect the floating installation.

Xploration Coastline Curaçao produces both drinking and agricultural water by purifying seawater and uses only clean energy. All necessary water production and water treatment installations, including energy generators, are on a floating platform.

This makes it quickly deployable for humanitarian aid in the event of disasters within the Kingdom. Those affected on the spot are thus assured of the first need for (drinking) water.

For most of the year, the installation is moored in Curaçao to contribute to food security. The 1 million liters of water per day will then become available to farmers.

The dual use ensures that investment and maintenance costs are shared and agricultural water becomes very affordable. Xploration Coastline Curaçao thus fulfills the crucial precondition to give agricultural entrepreneurship in Curaçao more chance to be competitive.

Boost event

The Xploration Coastline Curaçao BOOST event will take place from May 9 to 11 next year. Local agricultural entrepreneurs, residents, recreationists, nature organizations and landowners are invited to come to a joint plan for the area development around the location where the platform will be docked.

This plan is presented to an interdepartmental steering group of four ministries, which converts the proposal into policy.
