Van Huffelen: “Reforms taking shape more and more”

Main news | By Correspondent October 9, 2023

THE HAGUE - The reforms in Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten are taking shape more and more, writes State Secretary for Kingdom Relations Alexandra Van Huffelen in her cover letter to the Dutch House of Representatives regarding the recently signed implementation agendas for the fourth quarter.

For the next three months, there are again some beautiful examples of concrete results foreseen. For example, in Aruba, the redesign of the public organization will be worked on in the coming months, and the Aruban Competition Authority will be launched, which will help create a more level playing field for businesses and consumer protection.

In Curaçao, the Education Improvement Plan (Plan Mehorashon di Enseñansa) will be completed based on the results of working sessions with the field regarding desired changes and the timeline, and action plans for priority improvement proposals will be put into action.

In Sint Maarten, the socio-economic reform agenda will be presented to the Council of Ministers, and Phase 2 of the transformation of the Tax Department will begin with the implementation of a new ICT system. The processing of the draft law for the introduction of universal and affordable health insurance by the Council of Advice and Parliament is also on the agenda.
