This concerns fuel equivalent to the Euro 4 standard
WILLEMSTAD - The Working Group, which includes active representation from the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO), Ministry of Public Health, Environment and Nature (GMN), Gas Station Owners Association, Curoil as the exclusive provider of gasoline (Mogas 95) and diesel ((U)LSD) in Curaçao, the Bureau of Telecommunications & Post (BTP), along with the Curaçao Heavy Equipment Association (CHEA), the United Transport Union (STU), and the Curaçao Car Dealers Association (CCDA), has released the Fuel Quality Guide, which determines the new specifications that ensure better quality gasoline (Mogas 95) and diesel ((U)LSD), equivalent to the Euro 4 standard used in Europe.
As it is possibly known, under the guidance of the Working Group, SGS INSPIRE conducted a study on the fuel here in Curaçao. From this, specific recommendations were made for a better quality of fuel, equivalent to Euro 4, for Curaçao. Specifically, in terms of gasoline and diesel. It is noteworthy that the financial and economic consequences of introducing higher quality fuel were taken into account here.
The financial consequences that this improved quality brings along will result in a slight increase in the price of gasoline and diesel, around 3 cents and 2 cents respectively compared to the current prices.
Minister Cijntje emphasizes and notes that besides the better quality equivalent to Euro 4 fuel, these recommendations also mean better efficiency and performance of the vehicle engines, as well as reduced maintenance costs.
Minister Cijntje announces that the recommendation for the new specifications of gasoline and diesel has been discussed and accepted in the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, August 23rd. According to the plan, the first batch of this higher quality fuel is expected to arrive in November. Minister Cijntje expresses gratitude to everyone who participated and worked closely on this journey.
In mid-September, the communication journey will be launched, in which we will inform the people of Curaçao about the entire process of introducing this new and improved fuel equivalent to Euro 4.
