WILLEMSTAD - The management of waste disposal company Selikor has initiated summary proceedings against the BTG union, citing their support for Monday's strike by the company's employees.
The workers of the waste disposal company blocked the entrance to the Malpais landfill, demanding the transfer of their supervisor, alleging a toxic work environment under his management. Despite discussions with Selikor's director, Wesley Kook, the entrance remained blocked throughout the day.
Fransley Sillé, the chairman of the BTG union, states that the striking employees want the removal of the waste collection service supervisor and insist that the management relocate him. According to Sillé, the incident leading to the work stoppage is just the tip of the iceberg. "They feel unsafe and claim he is the source of a toxic work atmosphere," Sillé added. BTG is now awaiting a summons from a bailiff for the lawsuit.
The action taken on Monday at Malpais is expected to have no impact on household waste collection.
