Main news | By Correspondent April 6, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The Public Schools Service (DOS), together with the Public Secondary Vocational Education (OSBOD), will start various studies for prisoners in Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Kòrsou (SDKK). This is reported by the Ministry of Justice.

The project, Learning Inside Out, aims to prepare prisoners for reintegration into the community. It is one of the projects that the Minister of Justice, Shalten Hato gives priority to and for which he makes funds available.

In the rehabilitation program, the focus is on education and on things that will be of use to the prisoners in their daily lives. According to Hato, it is important to invest in the prisoners so that they can better integrate into the community when they are released.

According to the probation service, many prisoners have great difficulty integrating and finding a job when they are released. They do not feel sufficiently equipped to be productive after imprisonment.

Prisoners can train as bricklayers, tailors, mechanics, carpenters, and painters. The rehabilitation process starts from the moment prisoners arrive at SDKK.

Studies for the inmates begin in August.
