WILLEMSTAD - According to the police, the turn of the year in Curaçao went smoothly. One person was injured by fireworks. One patient reported to the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) on New Year's morning, who was allowed to go home after treatment.
Four patients had to be taken to hospital because of injuries sustained in traffic accidents. One of them had to stay for further medical care, the other three were able to go home.
Between 12 noon on December 31 and 12 noon on January 1, 70 patients reported to the hospital's Emergency Department. According to the CMC, the majority of patients could have been treated by their own GP.
Due to the lack of a GP station at the hospital, the Emergency Department is flooded, especially at weekends, by patients who should have gone to their GP first.
