Progress on candidate ministers’ integrity screening process

Main news | By Correspondent November 1, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Following recent changes in the composition of the Pisas II Cabinet, it was agreed that the Minister of Economic Development (EO) and Minister of Social Development, Labor, and Welfare (SOAW) positions would be filled by candidates nominated by independent MP Mrs. Z. Jesus-Leito and the Kòrsou Esun Mihó (KEM) party.

In line with the National Ordinance on Integrity for (Candidate) Ministers, the Prime Minister, acting as cabinet formateur, is responsible for the screening process leading to the appointment of these ministers due to the interim ministerial replacements.

The Prime Minister has requested that the necessary agencies conduct the mandated screenings under the National Ordinance for the proposed candidates for the vacant ministerial positions. The results of these screenings will be communicated to both the Prime Minister and the Governor. The Prime Minister will not advance or endorse a candidate for ministerial appointment if the nomination does not align with the findings of the prescribed screenings.

Currently, the screenings for the candidate ministers are still underway. Upon completion, the Prime Minister will determine whether to submit the nominations to the Governor for potential appointment.

The results of the screenings, as well as the contents of discussions and correspondence between the Prime Minister and the candidates, remain confidential. Other than notifying the Governor, the Prime Minister will not disclose details regarding these matters.
