WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Gilmar ‘Pik’ Pisas reflected on his administration's achievements and shared his vision for Curaçao's future in a New Year’s speech released on January 1 via official government channels. The address highlighted economic, social, and infrastructural developments on the island.

Pisas praised Curaçao’s resilience in overcoming global economic challenges and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that the country’s GDP has grown and unemployment has declined. He also pointed to advancements in healthcare, including expansions at the Curaçao Medical Center and new public health initiatives.

The Prime Minister celebrated progress in education and infrastructure, citing investments in schools, digital learning tools, road construction, and renovation projects. He emphasized the need for continued structural reforms and efforts to ensure the island's financial stability.

While acknowledging the strides made, Pisas also addressed persistent challenges such as high energy costs and the importance of sustainable development. He stressed the need for collaboration among the government, businesses, and international partners to tackle these issues effectively.

In a message to the people of Curaçao, Pisas expressed gratitude for their support and trust, calling for unity to build a brighter future. He stated that a period of growth and stability is within reach if the island continues to work together.

Upcoming Elections

Although Pisas focused on his government’s successes, his message comes during the final months of his administration. General elections are scheduled for March 21, 2025. As such, the address not only served as a retrospective but also as a call to continue the policies of his cabinet.
