Prime Minister of Curaçao: COVID-19 and flu situation under control

Main news | By Correspondent January 12, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas of Curaçao has declared that the situation regarding the recent increase in COVID-19 and flu cases on the island is 'under control.' Pisas, currently acting as the Minister of Health, made this statement in response to recent developments.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the number of flu and COVID-19 cases in Curaçao has significantly increased. As a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of infections, patients with respiratory problems are now being treated separately from other patients in hospitals.

Additionally, since Wednesday, it is mandatory for all visitors to the SDKK prison in Curaçao to wear a face mask, a measure announced by the management on Tuesday. The SVB (Social Insurance Bank) also imposes this requirement, partly because sick employees typically report their incapacity to the social insurer first.

Nevertheless, Pisas emphasizes that there is no reason for panic. He urges the population to remain vigilant and take responsibility to prevent further escalation. This includes measures such as regular handwashing, wearing a face mask, and maintaining social distance.
