Power outage after Aqualectra tests

Main news | By Correspondent December 5, 2023

WILLEMSTAD – Yesterday, during the preparatory tests conducted by Aqualectra at the substations of Nijlweg and Parasasa, the power went out twice, according to a press release from the energy supplier. Various neighborhoods were left without electricity, including Otrobanda, Veeris, St. Michiel, Corasol, Juan Domingo, Muizenberg, Suffisant, Blue Bay, St. Helena, Sta. Catharina, and Sta. Rosa.

These tests follow the major blackout on November 14, during which a short circuit occurred in one of the main cables between the substations at Nijlweg and Weis due to the improper functioning of the network's protection system.

Aqualectra is currently conducting necessary preparatory tests to enhance the reliability of the electricity distribution network. These tests involve checking the functionality of various main connections to the distribution network.

In the coming weeks, Aqualectra will continue with such preparatory tests to ensure that the protection functions of the system are functioning properly. The company aims to prevent incidents, but that was not successful yesterday.
