Porto Kòrsou offers new plan to clean up Isla terrain for urban development

Main news | By Correspondent February 23, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The organization Porto Kòrsou again asks the Curaçao government to use an alternative scenario for urban development in the Schottegat area on the former Isla site.

With this, the organization responds to Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas' request for help in developing alternative plans for the refinery.

After almost eight months of exclusive negotiations with Caribbean Petroleum Refinery, the government has decided to end the negotiations. After seven years of searching, an operator has still not been found who is willing to take on the financial risks to restart the old refinery.

Sustainability

Porto Kòrsou is an existing development organization run by Sven Rusticus, Ronald van Sluisveld, Marc Arnold and Orlando Meulens, all active in GreenTown Curaçao.

Porto Kòrsou has its roots in Curaçao and the Netherlands and works together with international specialists in the field of sustainable and economic urban development, the organization writes.

The goal of Porto Kòrsou is to develop the Isla terrain in a sustainable way, including urban life, marinas and sustainable industries such as biochemistry, bioenergy, hydrogen production, fish processing places, innovative agriculture and park maintenance.

Last year Porto Kòrsou developed a plan for a new city on the site of the refinery with futuristic buildings. Together with their partners, Porto Kòrsou has developed a plan to clean up the site that has been polluted by the refinery for the past 100 years. They also offer to dismantle the old refinery.
