Political impasse between coalition partners not yet solved

Main news | By Correspondent February 17, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The political impasse has not yet been resolved between government parties MFK and PNP. The critical attitude of two PNP MPs Gwendell Mercelina and party chairman Sheldry Osepa has been a thorn in the side of the MFK for some time now. The party says it cannot blindly count on their support.

During the refinery takeover debate, the two PNPs supported an opposition motion to find a new takeover candidate. "In the interest of the people and our voters," said the PNP party.

The PNP board has stated in a letter that the political leader, the board, the elected officials and all our four members of parliament are on the same page.

“The PNP has always been a party that respects the opinion of the voters. We started this coalition with four MPs and our position remains the same. Each member of parliament retains the freedom to express his personal opinion taking into account party lines.”

According to the party, the members of parliament are doing their job properly and have the support of both the PNP board and voters.

At the level of the government and political leaders of both parties, the PNP says it is still negotiating and sees no reason to break the government relationship between the PNP and MFK.
