Police to Launch Targeted Road Checks on Vehicle Tax Compliance Starting May 1

WILLEMSTAD – Motorists in Curaçao will face targeted police checks starting May 1 as authorities begin a new enforcement campaign focused on the payment of motor vehicle tax.

According to the Curaçao Police Force, officers will conduct roadside inspections to verify whether vehicles have a valid 2026 tax card and whether it corresponds to the vehicle in question. Drivers may be stopped and asked to present their documents for inspection.

During the initial phase of the operation, no immediate fines will be issued to vehicles that do not yet have the new license plates. However, police stress that checks will still be carried out and that drivers are expected to have their documentation in order.

Authorities also reminded motorists that vehicles are required to display license plates both at the front and rear. These must be clearly visible at all times, both during the day and at night.

The enforcement effort is part of ongoing measures to improve compliance and ensure that all vehicles on the road meet legal requirements.
