Pisas: MFK Rules Out Collaboration with PAR

Main news | By Correspondent January 24, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – Gilmar Pisas, leader of the political party Movementu Futuro Kòrsou (MFK), has announced that MFK will not collaborate with the PAR party. During the submission of the party's candidate list to the Electoral Council yesterday, Pisas emphasized that MFK still has many unresolved issues it aims to address for the people of Curaçao, including the reopening of the Isla refinery and improving government finances.

Pisas stated that MFK remains committed to fulfilling its promises to the population, even though not all objectives were achieved during the current governing term. He expressed confidence that the party would secure an absolute majority in the March 21 elections, aiming for at least 11 seats.

Refinery Reopening

One of the key priorities on MFK’s agenda is reopening the Isla refinery. Pisas revealed that two companies, Oryx and Global, have expressed interest in operating the refinery. While agreements have been made, negotiations over environmental regulations have caused delays. Pisas stressed that no company is willing to invest without clear guarantees regarding environmental standards. However, he noted that Oryx has already created job opportunities, which he sees as a positive development.

Financial Recovery

In addition to the refinery, Pisas highlighted other unresolved matters, such as restoring government finances. He pointed out that Curaçao has not experienced a healthy financial situation for decades but emphasized that progress has been made. According to Pisas, these steps are laying the groundwork for future stability and prosperity.
