WILLEMSTAD - The Pisas cabinet has regained its majority in parliament following the withdrawal of the Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP) from the coalition. Despite the PNP's exit, the government received crucial backing from the one-member faction of KEM and independent parliamentarian Zita Jesus-Leito.
MFK chairman and Minister of Education Sithree van Heydoorn confirmed that an agreement had been reached with both MPs. With this new alliance, the coalition now enjoys the support of 11 members in the Curaçao parliament, ensuring a majority and the continuation of the government.
Van Heydoorn clarified that this development does not mark the formation of a new “Pisas III” cabinet but rather a restructuring of the current administration. The coalition, now including KEM and Jesus-Leito, plans to govern for the remaining seven months leading up to the March 2025 elections.
The next step for the new coalition is to nominate ministerial candidates to undergo the official screening process. While Van Heydoorn did not disclose specific details about portfolio assignments, sources suggest that KEM could be awarded the Ministry of Social Development, Labor, and Welfare (SOAW), and Jesus-Leito might take over the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO).
The confirmation of these positions and the approval of new ministers will be critical for the smooth operation of the cabinet in the months ahead.
