WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten held talks this week on the continuation of cooperation surrounding the Landspakket (economic and financial) reform program and the future refinancing of Dutch loans to Curaçao.
The discussions took place during Jetten’s two-day working visit to Curaçao, according to a statement released by the Curaçao government following the visit.
During meetings held on May 13, both leaders discussed several financial, economic, and governance-related issues considered important for future cooperation within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
A central topic was the continuation of the mutual arrangement governing implementation of the Landspakket reforms. The two governments also discussed the refinancing of existing Dutch loans to Curaçao once they mature.
The Landspakket was introduced in 2020 as part of agreements between the Netherlands and Curaçao following the COVID-19 crisis. In exchange for financial support, Curaçao committed to a series of reforms in areas including government finances, economic restructuring, tax collection, and public administration.
According to the Curaçao government, the talks also addressed international developments and the importance of maintaining structural consultation within the Kingdom.
Pisas and Jetten additionally discussed preparations for a Kingdom Conference scheduled to take place later this year.
Following the visit, Prime Minister Pisas emphasized the importance of cooperation “based on equality and shared responsibility.”
The future of the Landspakket and the refinancing of Dutch liquidity support loans remain politically significant topics within Curaçao, particularly as the island continues balancing economic recovery, public finances, and long-term reform commitments.
