WILLEMSTAD - Michelangelo "Lo" Martines, a parliamentarian and founder of the party Kòrsou Esun Mihó (KEM), was arrested on Tuesday morning on suspicion of money laundering. The Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed the arrest, though additional details about the case have not been released.
Martines is the sole representative of KEM, a party that joined the Pisas administration in late August. KEM was set to appoint the Minister of Social Development, Labor, and Welfare, a position Martines indicated would be filled this week. However, there has been no official confirmation of this appointment to date.
The parliamentarian has previously served a prison sentence for a drug-related offense.
