Parliament to discuss lease agreement for oil refinery

Main news | By Correspondent September 2, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Parliament will convene tomorrow in a Central Committee meeting to discuss a 30-year lease agreement between Refineria di Kòrsou, the refinery's landlord, and the company Oryx Midstream. Both Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and the management of Refineria di Kòrsou have been invited to attend.

Since the agreement was signed earlier this year, numerous questions have arisen, particularly from labor unions. These unions are concerned that, despite numerous assurances, the refinery may never operate at its previous capacity.

The unions are seeking clarification from the government regarding whether any future oil refining operations will take place.

Additionally, the Parliament will continue its discussion on Wednesday regarding the final report from the inquiry committee about the construction of the new hospital. The meeting, which began a week and a half ago, was cut short when the PNP left the coalition on the same day. The discussion will resume on Wednesday.
