WILLEMSTAD - The Meander School in Curaçao has issued a warning to parents about a small white vehicle with three occupants that has been spotted around schools and childcare centers in recent days. Reports indicate that the occupants—a woman and two men—have been acting suspiciously, attempting to approach children. While no formal complaints have been filed, the police are remaining vigilant and are urging parents to exercise extra caution.
The warning follows numerous social media posts where parents describe how the vehicle, often driven by someone speaking English, attempts to catch children’s attention. One parent shared that her eight-year-old daughter was approached in the Mahuma area by a woman who gestured for the girl to come closer while staring at her menacingly.
Another parent recounted an incident at Sambil shopping center, where a woman with long black hair, wearing sunglasses and speaking on the phone, grabbed her son and claimed he was her child. The child’s mother intervened quickly and freed her son. The woman, who spoke Spanish, said it was a misunderstanding, but the mother left feeling uneasy and warned others to stay vigilant.
The police have acknowledged these social media reports, advising parents to report suspicious incidents immediately by calling 911 for emergencies or 917 for other concerns. Although there is currently no immediate cause for alarm, the police emphasize that vigilance is essential.
Parents are advised to pick up their children at the school gate and to stay alert for suspicious vehicles or individuals. The Meander School has also encouraged parents to report any incidents to aid in monitoring the situation effectively.
