WILLEMSTAD – The PAR parliamentary faction has welcomed the announcement by Minister of Finance Charles Cooper that the government will investigate the use of funds generated through the new online gaming legislation (LOK). According to PAR, the investigation is an important step toward greater transparency in the management of public money.
The statement follows revelations that ANG 8.3 million in public funds allegedly flows annually to a foreign entity in Malta, while there is still uncertainty about the exact services provided in exchange for that payment.
PAR faction leader Quincy Girigorie said the party supports Cooper’s decision because it demonstrates political responsibility and a commitment to transparency.
“Every cent managed by the government comes from the hard work of the people of Curaçao and must return to the benefit of society,” PAR stated.
The party emphasized that public officials have a responsibility to ensure that government funds are used efficiently and in the best interest of the population.
According to PAR, the investigation announced by Cooper shows the importance of holding government spending accountable. The faction called on other ministers within the Pisas III cabinet to follow the same example and provide transparency whenever Parliament requests information about the use of public resources.
PAR also stressed that parliamentary oversight remains a fundamental responsibility of the Curaçao Parliament.
