Ministry of GMN initiates information journey regarding nuisance permit

Main news | By Press release August 24, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - When a person starts a business, they have to apply for various permits from different ministries. One of these permits is the Nuisance Permit, which is issued by the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN). The Nuisance Permit is mandatory for any activity that could have environmental consequences. This includes impacts on soil, water, air, as well as public health aspects such as noise and foul odors. The goal of the Nuisance Permit is to reduce environmental impact and safeguard public health.

The Ministry of GMN has begun a journey to inform various sectors about the Nuisance Permit and how to apply for it. On this occasion, a meeting was organized with the hospitality sector in Punda at the Chamber of Commerce's meeting room. Mr. Stokkermans from the Ministry of GMN provided an explanation of the content and requirements for applying for the permit. Mr. Cordilia from Public Health provided information on waste water management, Mr. Wilson from Fire Department provided information related to construction permits, and Mr. Gijsbertha from MEO informed about various economic permits granted by MEO.

This meeting with the hospitality sector in Punda marks the first encounter organized by the Nuisance Permit department of the Ministry of GMN. More meetings will be organized with specific sectors to ensure that every company complies with this important requirement. The ultimate goal is to reach a situation where every economic or environmentally impactful commercial activity has all the necessary official permits required for the establishment to function. The Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature will continue to inform the community about this significant journey.
