WILLEMSTAD - Interim Minister of Health, Nature, and Environment, Javier Silvania, expressed confidence in addressing any potential shortage of medical specialists in Curaçao. In the event of resignations from the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC), Silvania assured the public that he would actively seek new medical specialists from the region to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services at the hospital.
The recent filing of summary proceedings against the minister by the medical specialists on behalf of the CMC hospital has sparked discussions about salary regulations. The medical specialists contested the applicability of the salary ceiling, which applies to all civil servants and employees of public limited companies, to their profession. However, the court ruled against their claims.
Following the ruling, rumors have circulated on social media regarding the possibility of medical specialists resigning from their positions in Curaçao, as they reportedly prefer to work in the Netherlands, where higher salaries are offered. Responding to these concerns, Minister Silvania took to social media to address the situation. He expressed his unwavering determination, stating that he is not worried about a potential lack of doctors.
To ensure continued access to quality healthcare, Minister Silvania affirmed his readiness to explore recruitment options in the region. By seeking medical specialists from neighboring countries, the minister aims to maintain a skilled workforce that can provide comprehensive medical care within Curaçao.
