WILLEMSTAD – The Minister of Justice Shalten Hato reacts angrily to the negative report that Amnesty International released on Tuesday about the continuing bad situation for Venezuelan undocumented migrants in Curaçao.
The report 'Curaçao: Little improvement in the protection of Venezuelans' is based on four refugees who were followed over the past year. Hato denies the fact that there would be no improvement and says that the theme is a concern for the Ministry of Justice on a daily basis. There would be constant work to improve the migration process.
Human rights and fair treatment are also basic principles for the ministry. Only Curaçao cannot just open the borders and give everyone access to the island. The report is now being processed internally, said the minister.
