Minister of Finance too late with implementation report

Main news | By Correspondent March 27, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Finance Minister Javier Silvania is late with the implementation report on the financial situation of Curaçao. This concerns the report for the fourth quarter of 2022.

The Board of Financial Supervision Curaçao (Cft) was supposed to receive the report at the end of February, but the minister has not managed to do so. This is against state law. Chairman of Cft Lidewij Ongering says that the minister has also not provided additional information on two other implementation reports, which was the wish of Cft

The budget of Curaçao shows a surplus of 142 million guilders, much more than the government budgeted in advance. Ongering: “This also concerns the loan from the CMC hospital, which has not been repaid since June 2020.”

The Cft is also positive because they see that the tax benefits have increased in 2022. The revenues for the government from taxes have therefore increased, putting Curaçao in a better financial position. Sales tax and import duties in particular played a major role in this. Nevertheless, the Cft indicates that it is important to keep track of tax revenues and adjust them where necessary for 2023.
