Minister of Finance calls for withdrawal of Audit Chamber's Annual Accounts Report

Main news | By Correspondent May 13, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - Minister Javier Silvania of Finance has made an urgent appeal to the General Audit Chamber (ARC) to withdraw their recent report on the 2022 Annual Accounts of the Country. According to the minister, the report contains serious errors and lacks dialogue with his ministry on critical issues.

The Audit Chamber reported a significant amount of 521.2 million guilders in compliance errors in the annual report, of which 16.2 million guilders, according to Silvania, were incorrectly identified as reliability and financial compliance errors.

The minister has expressed concerns about the finality of this report, given the lack of essential communication with his ministry, which he considers a violation of transparency and accountability standards.

The Ministry of Finance's criticism is not only directed at the content of the report but also at the process. "If there had been adequate communication with us, these incorrect points would never have been included in the final report," Silvania states. He emphasizes the importance of clear communication between all parties involved to ensure the accuracy of the reports.

Furthermore, the ministry complains about the lack of recognition for the positive developments achieved and the one-sided negative portrayal of the financial situation by the ARC. Silvania insists that the Audit Chamber revises and corrects the report in accordance with factual data and in dialogue with his ministry.

This call for withdrawal is not common. The procedures that the Audit Chamber uses for hearing and rebuttal are established and known.
