MFK Shows Cowardice and Halts Meeting on Gasoline and Diesel Price Hike Amid Crisis

| By Correspondent March 23, 2026

WILLEMSTAD -The People’s National Party (PNP) faction has expressed deep concern over what it describes as cowardly behavior by MFK. An emergency meeting, which was called by the government itself, was ultimately voted down by the same coalition, allegedly due to a lack of preparation. According to the PNP, what unfolded in Parliament was an absolute disgrace.

The faction questioned how the MFK-led Pisas III Cabinet can claim to manage a crisis with direct consequences for Curaçao if it cannot withstand critical questions from parliamentarians. The PNP described the events as a failure of leadership, stating that a few critical voices from the opposition appeared to unsettle the government, which then used its majority to halt the debate.

The government has since indicated that it needs to conduct a financial analysis. However, the PNP questioned why such an analysis was not required before deciding to increase diesel and gasoline prices. According to the faction, the government acted quickly when raising costs for the public but hesitated when asked to justify those decisions in Parliament.

During the session, the PNP reiterated its position that the government failed to present concrete solutions. The faction pointed out that while the situation was framed as a crisis earlier in the day, the government did not arrive at the emergency meeting with a clear plan.

The PNP also criticized what it described as the imbalance between government resources and opposition capacity, noting that despite the presence of advisors and consultants, the government struggled to respond effectively to parliamentary scrutiny.

In its statement, the PNP called on the public to remain alert and critical, arguing that the focus should be on addressing the cost of living rather than engaging in political maneuvering.

The faction emphasized that it will continue to advocate for transparency, accountability, and the well-being of the people of Curaçao.
