MAN-PIN: Healthcare at risk due to poor policies by Health Minister Silvania

Main news | By Correspondent August 15, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The political party MAN-PIN believes that healthcare is at risk due to the poor policies of Minister of Health, Environment, and Nature, Javier Silvania (MFK). The party expressed this concern in an official statement.

"For years, the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has been pleading for help from the government, which owns the hospital. But Silvania acts as if the only public hospital is not important," stated MAN-PIN.

According to the political party, a project manager was appointed at the end of December 2022 to resolve the issues, but so far, little action has been taken. As a result, the hospital is in a dire financial situation, unable to fulfill its responsibilities. Additionally, there are long waiting times in healthcare due to the "Landsbesluit Normering Topinkomens" (National Decree on Standardizing Top Incomes).

There is also reportedly a lack of "1.5-line care," where specialists, general practitioners, and other healthcare professionals provide care from various medical centers in Curaçao, focusing on preventing chronic diseases. The need for healthcare in the community is increasing, and within three years, the CMC may no longer be able to treat the number of patients it currently does.

MAN-PIN regrets the lack of resolution to these problems.
