WILLEMSTAD - Food producers in Curaçao have expressed concerns about the ongoing political instability and the government's lack of response to their proposal for a new policy plan aimed at improving food production and safety on the island. Despite assurances from Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas to review and respond to the proposal promptly, no answer has been received yet.
Last week, the associations sent another letter requesting a response, giving the government until last Friday. However, that deadline has passed without any reply.
Local food producers are worried about the political situation's impact on their sector, stated Lutson Lucas, spokesperson for the cooperative associations of agriculture, livestock, and fisheries.
The producers are urging the government to act swiftly to alleviate uncertainty and support their efforts to achieve sustainable and safe food supply in Curaçao. It remains unclear how the government will respond to the sector's calls for action.
