WASHINGTON - Secretary of Justice Shalton Hato is hopeful that part of Robbie dos Santos' millions will flow back to the crime fund. According to the minister, agreements have been made with the US Department of Justice in Washington to transfer the funds, which are still frozen, back to an account of the Curaçao government.

Shalton is in Washington on a working visit. He not only speaks about the millions of Dos Santos, but also about the "Trafficking in Persons" (TIP) report and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that have a so-called dependency in Curaçao for the prevention of human trafficking.
Bientu
Nine years after the lottery king of Curaçao was convicted of tax evasion, possession of firearms, money laundering, forgery and participation in a criminal organization in the Bientu case, the crime fund has not yet received a cent.
The Public Prosecution Service withdrew the appeal in 2016 and a confiscation case has now been settled. That leaves the approximately 72 million guilders that have been seized, but are still stuck in the United States.
Hato has indicated that this money can be put to good use for the realization of rehabilitation programs in the SDKK prison and the purchase of equipment for the police.
