WILLEMSTAD - As of January 1, 2025, the monthly child support amount will increase by 1.7%, following a decision by the Minister of Justice.
All children under the age of 21 are entitled to child support. If the child is still attending school, this right extends until the age of 25. The amount of child support can be determined either by a court ruling (known as a "rechterlijke beschikking") or through a voluntary agreement arranged at the Office of Judicial Care (formerly known as the Guardianship Council). This amount is the monthly sum required for the maintenance and care of the child.
According to Article 402a, paragraph one, of Book One of the Civil Code, child support amounts are legally adjusted annually by a percentage (referred to as an indexation), which is set by the Minister of Justice.
In a ministerial decree dated November 21, 2024, the Minister of Justice set the indexation increase for 2025 at 1.7%. This means that the monthly child support amount, whether received or paid, will increase by 1.7% starting January 1, 2025.
For example, if a person currently pays or receives 100 guilders per month in child support, this will rise to 101.70 guilders starting January 2025.
