Government ensures protection of Ennia policyholders

Main news | By Correspondent August 14, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The government, led by Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and Minister of Finance Javier Silvania, has assured that the rights of Ennia policyholders will remain protected, as outlined in the agreement of April 11.

The agreement, reached after nearly a year of negotiations between Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS), is aimed at preventing a financial crisis and social impact due to a potential bankruptcy of Ennia. However, a possible new government in Sint Maarten has indicated a different perspective on this agreement, raising concerns among policyholders in Curaçao.

The government continues to consult with the CBCS to prevent any negative consequences for the rights of policyholders and hopes that Sint Maarten will continue to recognize the importance of the agreement.
