WILLEMSTAD - GIK Refineria BV is once again making a bid for the management of the Isla refinery in Curaçao. This while the Council of Ministers has already approved Caribbean Petroleum Refinery (CPR) as the 'preferred bidder' in June.
However, GIK does not want to lay down the hatchet yet and states in an urgent appeal to the cabinet that it is prepared to make all necessary investments to start the refinery 'early in the new year'. That is what lawyer Rutsel Martha states to the owner of the refinery installations Refineria di Korsou (RdK). This concerns all adjustments necessary to ensure that the refinery, the utilities and the terminal at Bullen Bay meet the environmental requirements.
GIK says it wants to "seize the last opportunity to save the refinery that belongs to the entire community of Curaçao."
GIK belongs to Brazilian Roberto Viana, former partner of Curaçao Oil Refinery Complex (Corc).
