WILLEMSTAD - The Pisas government has been unable or unwilling to make a decision on new fuel prices for the month of May. Apparently, there is disagreement within the cabinet over the proposal from the supervisory authority BTP.
This has to do with the elimination of the temporary measure not to levy excise duties. This measure was withdrawn exactly one year after its introduction last month, which means that gasoline and diesel will become around 25 cents more expensive on top of any monthly price adjustment.
Gasoline currently costs 2.29 guilders per liter and diesel 1.87 guilders. This means that at least 25 cents would be added in May.
But even that is not going to happen for the time being. In order to break the ministerial deadlock, the prices will remain the same until further notice, according to the cabinet.
Water and electricity
The new prices for water and electricity have been announced. Water will decrease by 22 cents per cubic meter. The first nine cubic meters will cost 9.33 guilders instead of 9.55 guilders.
Electricity will also decrease. From May 1st, one kilowatt-hour will cost slightly less than 64 cents in the consumption group up to 250 kilowatt-hours. This is currently 67 cents, a difference of three cents.
