WILLEMSTAD - Minister Javier Silvania considers the implementation of the National Ordinance on Games of Chance to be the number one priority. The minister said this during a meeting in Malta. The plan is to present the new law to parliament in the second quarter of 2023. More than a year after previous plans.
The new law does not mean that the existing master licensees must stop immediately. They will have a transitional period of eighteen months. However, a license must be applied for at the Curaçao Gaming Authority within three months. There are a total of five master license holders with approximately thousands of sub-licenses, which the government no longer has any insight into.
Online casinos that already have a license are allowed to continue under the old conditions, but are also obliged to apply for the license within three months. The Gaming Control Board will decide who gets a license and who doesn't.
The permit is not easy to apply for. The gambling companies must comply with the requirements. This means that part of the company must be located in Curaçao.
Leave
The gambling companies are located in Curaçao for a reason. They like the legislation and obtaining a permit is very simple. Because this is all going to change now, a large part of the providers want to leave.
Malta is a gambling island. A large part of gambling companies are located here. Curaçao hopes to receive advice and help from Malta. The islands discussed the world of online games of chance together.
Education
A small part of the proceeds from the gambling sector upon the introduction of the new law will be used to invest in education.
Three percent to be exact. Another three percent will be used for the development of sports in Curaçao.
