| By Correspondent March 4, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – CBS Curaçao has presented the first results of the Venezuela Poll, an exploratory online survey examining levels of concern, crisis preparedness, and how the local population followed news about the geopolitical situation between Venezuela and the United States surrounding the events of January 3, 2026.

The survey was conducted from January 16 through February 2, 2026. A total of 684 individuals participated. The findings are based solely on the responses of these participants and should be considered indicative rather than representative of the entire population of Curaçao. A more comprehensive study on this topic will be carried out later in 2026.

Of the 684 respondents, 53% were women and 47% were men. Nearly three-quarters (72.6%) belonged to the 25–64 age group, followed by 23.7% aged 65 and older, and 3.7% younger than 25. The majority of participants (68.6%) were born in Curaçao.

Key Findings

• 60.8% of respondents reported being somewhat to very concerned about the situation in Venezuela. Only 18.4% indicated having little to no concern, while 20.8% remained neutral.

• A majority (68.4%) followed news about the situation attentively to very attentively. Another 23.8% followed the news somewhat closely, while 7.8% followed it little or not at all.

• 36.3% relied primarily on international media for information, 24.1% on social media, 20.2% on local media, 11.6% on official government websites, 7.3% on family sources, and 0.5% on other sources.

• Most respondents felt insufficiently prepared for potential uncertainties. Only 19.8% reported feeling (very) well prepared, while 71.4% felt only somewhat prepared or not prepared at all. Another 8.8% believed preparation was unnecessary.

Follow-Up

The survey serves as an initial indication of public perception and information consumption regarding this issue. Based on these results, a more extensive study will be conducted later in 2026.
