Final edition of "farewell NAf" circulation coin now in use on Curaçao and Sint Maarten

WILLEMSTAD - The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) has announced the release of the last special edition circulation coin, honoring the legacy of the Netherlands Antillean currency. The new 5-guilder coin, known as the "Farewell NAf," is now in circulation across Curaçao and Sint Maarten.

The design of the coin is inspired by the birds featured on the old Netherlands Antillean banknotes, including species such as the hummingbird, flamingo, rufous-collared sparrow, bananaquit, Caribbean mockingbird, and oriole. The coin carries the same face value as the standard 5-guilder piece.

Earlier in July, the CBCS introduced a commemorative silver version of the "Farewell NAf," valued at 110 guilders, aimed at collectors. A CBCS representative explained that the higher value of the collector's edition is due to its superior quality materials. "The circulation coin shares the same design as the Farewell NAf, but its quality is lower," the spokesperson noted.

The release of this final edition marks a symbolic farewell to the former Netherlands Antillean currency.
