| By Correspondent March 19, 2026

THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD – The European Union plans to significantly increase funding for the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom, including Curaçao, with a total budget of €425 million earmarked for the next financial period starting in 2028.

The funding is intended to strengthen economic development and resilience across the islands, particularly in areas such as climate adaptation, digital transformation, education, and infrastructure.

However, it remains unclear how much of this funding will ultimately reach Curaçao. According to the Dutch government, the distribution of funds among the islands is still under negotiation within the European Union.

The announcement signals growing strategic interest in the Caribbean region, but for Curaçao, the actual impact will depend on future decisions in Brussels and The Hague.
