WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao’s Economic Inspection, part of the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO), recently carried out a series of checks in Otrobanda, revealing widespread non-compliance with economic regulations. Of the eight businesses inspected, only one was found to be following the rules.
The inspections, conducted on Wednesday with the support of the Tax Accountants Bureau Foundation (SBAB), were prompted by complaints from the Otrobanda Traders Association (SKO) regarding the conduct of some traders in the district.
As a result of the operation, two businesses were forced to cease operations, while five others were issued warnings for failing to comply with economic permit conditions. The Economic Inspection has called on all traders in the city center, including Otrobanda and Punda, to ensure full compliance with their permits to avoid penalties during future inspections.
