Dutch Parliament alarmed by financial troubles at Curaçao Medical Center

Main news | By Correspondent August 29, 2024

THE HAGUE - The financial difficulties facing the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) have raised concerns in the Dutch Parliament.

Members of Parliament Faith Bruyning and Daniëlle Jansen from the Nieuw Sociaal Contract (NSC) party have submitted written questions. These are directed to State Secretaries Karremans (Public Health, Welfare, and Sport) and Szabó (Digitalization and Kingdom Relations) regarding the role of the Dutch government in addressing this crisis.

They seek clarification on what forms of both one-time and structural financial support are being considered by the Netherlands to assist the CMC.

The MPs’ questions were prompted by the article titled "Curaçao's Healthcare on the Verge of Collapse: 'A Bill for the Netherlands is Inevitable,'" published in the Financieel Dagblad, which outlines the ongoing financial issues at the CMC since its opening in 2019.

The hospital has been struggling with mounting deficits, straining its relationship with the Curaçaoan government.
