DNB President Klaas Knot: Curaçao needs entrepreneurs with courage and decisiveness

Main news | By Correspondent February 16, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The President of De Nederlandsche Bank, Klaas Knot, spoke on Thursday afternoon during the annual VBC lunch about the importance of sustainable, green finance. He emphasized that this transition "not only takes time, money, and manpower but, above all, requires entrepreneurs with courage and decisiveness and the willingness to collaborate." He called on those present to take action. The lunch with Knot was well attended by many entrepreneurs, as well as politicians. Knot extensively discussed the importance of energy transition. According to him, foreign investments are needed for this.

From Knot's speech: "Curaçao is currently heavily dependent on fossil fuels, which cause high greenhouse gas emissions. To reduce these emissions, a switch to renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy and energy storage technologies is needed. This transition takes time, money, and manpower. It requires investments and efforts; it requires entrepreneurs with courage and decisiveness. And the willingness to collaborate. Because a sparsely populated island like Curaçao cannot make this transition alone. Foreign investments need to be attracted, and international cooperation is essential."
