Division within parliament about visit to Panama

Main news | By Correspondent April 13, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Members of Parliament and also people outside parliament have been discussing the usefulness of business trips to Panama for some time. This week it is time again for the meetings between the Parliament of Latin America and the Caribbean, also known as Parlatino. The main reason for the discussion is that the visits do not contribute to developments in Curaçao.

KEM parliamentarian Michelangelo 'Lo' Martinez has therefore decided not to go on these official trips anymore. Ana-Maria Pauletta of the PAR faction indicates that the negative sound of recent years has arisen because there were no funds to send a delegation to Panama, so it was decided to get the money from another budget.

According to Pauletta, this year's budget has been drawn up differently and money is available. The topics discussed at the meetings this week are 'Gender Equality', 'Youth', 'Public Health' and 'Mines and Energy'. Pauletta cites these topics as the reason why it is important for Curaçao to participate in the consultation.
