WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao wants crude oil from Venezuela that Refineria di Kòrsou (RdK) and Curoil can trade with. Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas has enlisted the help of the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wopke Hoekstra.
The Spanish oil company Repsol, the American oil multinational Chevron and the Italian oil company Eni have received permission from the United States and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to transport Venezuelan oil. Something that Pisas also wants for Curaçao, he indicates in a YouTube broadcast, in which he answers questions from citizens.
The oil supply is an exception to the sanctions imposed by the United States on Venezuela. The American Consulate General, which is located in Willemstad, has been called in for this.
Venezuela still has a large debt outstanding with Curaçao. This could be relieved with the supply of oil. Pisas remains positive about the opening of the Isla refinery and thinks there will be a demand for oil products for at least another thirty years.
Oil deliveries should become possible on April 3.
