Curaçao to receive fuel according to new specifications in its tanks

Main news | By Correspondent December 15, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) indicates in a press release that it is extremely pleased that the efforts to reach fuel of the highest quality have culminated. The first fleet of fuel according to the new specifications, following recommendations from the SGS Inspire investigation approved by the Council of Ministers on August 23, has arrived in Curaçao. The Schwyz tanker delivered Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (December 1) and Mogas (December 11) that Curoil purchased through the bidding process. After making the necessary preparations, Curoil is ready to begin the transition period so that the community of Curaçao can start receiving the fuel according to these new specifications.

MEO expresses gratitude to every stakeholder, including the Curaçao Car Dealer Association (CCDA), Curaçao Heavy Equipment Association (CHEA), Uni Transport Union (STU) representing public transportation (taxis, school buses, etc.), representatives of gas stations (including Asogas, COPDA, and Vanddis), Curoil, the exclusive supplier of Mogas and LSD in Curaçao, the Bureau of Telecommunications & Post (BT&P), the regulator, and the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN) that played a significant role in the efforts to achieve fuel of the highest quality for our community. In the same breath, MEO thanks the community for their patience in awaiting this significant moment.

Now, the work to monitor and control the process and quality of fuel and developments related to fuel will continue in the upcoming transition period. As previously mentioned, it will take approximately 2 months for consumers of Mogas to receive fuel 100% according to the new specifications. For ULSD, this will take around 4 months due to the longer blending period.

Both MEO and Curoil, along with BTP, will continue to keep the community informed in the coming period. Starting now, quality reports are available for both Mogas and ULSD on the Curoil website.
