Curaçao tax authorities refund almost 6.5 million guilders to taxpayers

Main news | By Correspondent November 7, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - In the past two weeks, more than 14,000 tax assessments have been processed, of which about 5,000 were eligible for a refund. The tax authorities have returned around 6.5 million guilders to the taxpayer.

This mainly concerned income tax. In addition, a refund has been paid for AOVZ, AVBZ and BVZZ. In the case of refunds, any outstanding debts such as waste tax, real estate tax and/or remaining funds are first looked at. The final amount in the bank account may therefore be lower in some cases.

There are currently almost 1,100 assessments with a value of 1.6 million guilders that have not yet been paid because the taxpayer's bank details are not known to the Tax Authorities. The taxpayer will receive a letter by post or can call the tax authorities.

The tax authorities will continue to pay the refunds in the coming days. The counter of the tax declarations now stands at almost 17,000. They will be imposed between now and January. Eighty percent goes through an automated system.
