WILLEMSTAD – The Central Bureau of Statistics Curaçao (CBS) has published new population figures showing that the population of Curaçao increased by 1,891 people between January 1, 2025, and January 1, 2026.

According to the newly released statistics, Curaçao’s total population stood at 158,006 residents at the start of 2026.

CBS explained that in years without a census, population figures are calculated using civil registry data from Kranshi, including births, deaths, immigration, and emigration records.

Before publication, the data is cleaned to remove inconsistencies such as duplicate records and outdated registrations.

The figures show that migration continued to play a major role in population growth during 2025.

A total of 5,902 people immigrated to Curaçao last year, while 3,487 emigrated from the island, resulting in a positive migration balance of 2,495 people.

At the same time, birth rates continued to decline.

According to CBS, 1,029 children were born in 2025, representing 93 fewer births than in 2024. The birth rate fell from 7.2 births per 1,000 inhabitants in 2024 to 6.6 in 2025.

Women between the ages of 30 and 34 recorded the highest number of births compared to other age categories.

The average age of mothers remained virtually unchanged at 29.4 years.

CBS also reported that 1,553 people died in 2025, almost evenly divided between men and women.

The highest number of deaths occurred among people between 80 and 84 years old.

Infant mortality slightly increased to 11.7 deaths per 1,000 live births, compared to 11.6 in 2024.

The statistics provide an updated demographic overview at a time when Curaçao continues facing discussions about migration, aging, healthcare demand, housing, and long-term economic planning.
