WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Ministry of Finance has launched a new website about the gambling policy in Curaçao. Information about the gambling policy and the parties involved can be found on curacaogaming.info. Interested parties can find information about Curaçao’s gambling policy, the supervision of the gambling providers, and the policy for responsible gaming.
Three pillars
The homepage describes the three basic principles on which the new gambling law is built. The Minister of Finance Javier Silvania said this week in his speech at ICE in London that Curaçao wants to lead the way when it comes to responsible gaming. This is therefore the first of the three principles mentioned.
For example, there would be strict guidelines to protect players and the ministry wants to create a gambling market in which money laundering and terrorist financing are not an option.
The second pillar of the gambling policy is 'proactive'. The gambling market is a world that is developing rapidly and the policy for this market must therefore be able to move quickly.
With the State Ordinance On Games of Chance (LOK), Curaçao wants to create procedures that ensure that any changes can be quickly anticipated.
The third and final pillar is 'to be respected'. This was also reflected in Silvania's speech this week. According to the minister, the image in mainly foreign media is too negative about the online gambling sector in Curaçao.
Too often one would think that there is corruption and Silvania wants to get rid of this image. On the new website, you can read that the ministry is setting a new standard for online gambling. Transparency, integrity and efficiency are fundamental to this.
Furthermore, everything about the applicable legislation on the island, the most important parties in the gambling policy, and the latest news in the field of online gambling in Curaçao can be found on the website.
With the new website, the Ministry is well in time for the introduction of the LOK. Earlier this year, Minister Silvania announced that he expects the new gambling law to take effect in the second quarter of 2023.
